Crystal Pyramids

The Pyramids are the only one of the 7 wonders of the world and the oldest that has withstood the true test of time and the ravages of Mother Nature.  Located on the outskirts of the town of Giza, on the west bank of the Nile river opposite Cairo, they are the most visited attraction in Egypt renowned for their sheer size, architectural accomplishment, mysterious hidden treasures, and legendary historical legacy.

The Pyramids were built as tombs for 3 of the Pharaohs of ancient Egypt.   Since each Pharaoh, God, or King is legendary for their reign as ruler and revered by the people, each wanted their tomb to be well represented and visible, hence the spectacular dimensions of each.

The largest and the 1st to be built is that of the “Great Pyramid” of Khufu (Cheops).  It was built between 2589 – 2566 BC and was completely hand-built by hundreds of thousands of slaves and workers.  It consists of about 2 ½ million limestone blocks (about 1 cubic meter in size) each weighing between 2 – 15 tons!  Each block, whether pushed, pulled, or dragged, was put into their respective place.  Some of the inner chambers were fortified by granite blocks, which are much heavier than limestone.  The heaviest block is calculated to be close to 70 tons!

Besides testing the muscle of the workers, the Great Pyramid also has tested the skill of hundreds of mathematicians and architects since its creation.  The accuracy of its construction is truly remarkable!  The base itself covers nearly 13 acres and yet, the difference between the longest and shortest sides is a mere 20 millimeters or ¾ of an inch!   One fascinating fact about the Pyramid is that if you divide the perimeter (total length of the outer edges) of its base by twice the height, the result is almost exactly equal to the important mathematical value known today as pi !!!

Cheops was the 2nd king of the 4th dynasty.  His father, King Snofru, had built 2 pyramids at Dashur, 27 miles south of Giza, however not to the size of his sons.  Cheops strayed away from traditional pyramid building by building a monument where his tomb would be inside and not underneath as tradition states.  A 2nd pyramid was built for Cheop’s son, Chephren, and a 3rd for his grandson, Mycerinus.  There are a string of 70 pyramids, which stretch from Giza to the Sudanese border, each intended to ensure the immortality, which is sacred to Egyptians, of the reigning great Pharaoh, God, King, or Ruler of his generation.

Here at Crystal Emporium, our Crystal Pyramids are also quite spectacular!   Like each Egyptian pyramid, each design is an engineering work of art, a treasured possession to admire, as well as a monumental, decorative, & collectors piece of craftsmanship which will be a true keepsake standing the test of time for generations!   We have an assortment of sizes, coatings, and shapes to which to choose from and will enhance any decor where displayed.  Choose one today !!!
